WHEN DOES waterSHED™ MAKE SENSE FOR ME?

WATER QUALITY MANAGEMENT

For the civil engineer, a major component of stormwater management is runoff flow control, particularly in newly developed areas where buildings, parking lots, roads and other impervious surfaces replace green space.

The waterSHED™ stormwater detention system provides peak capture and runoff flow control for release into the environment, thereby decreasing flooding and satisfying this key element of the EPA’s NPDES permitting requirements. The installation of the waterSHED™ system earns credit on LEED-certified building projects. waterSHED™ also offers flow release by percolation recharge when appropriate.

WATER QUALITY MANAGEMENT

Unlike many other underground systems, waterSHED™ may be designed with an integrated filter for water quality enhancement. Filters are most often used to treat runoff from parking lots, driveways, loading docks, service stations, garages, airport runways/taxiways, and storage yards.

These filters provide the added benefit of removing many common pollutants from stormwater runoff including sediment, biochemical oxygen demand and fecal coliform bacteria. waterSHED™ structures with integrated filters are constructed with impermeable bottoms, which helps the system to collect, treat and release runoff with no contact between the contaminated runoff and groundwater.

These filter components take up minimal space and are well-suited for highly impervious areas where land available for structural controls is limited. As an added bonus, you can look to ECS for service and maintenance of your waterSHED™ structure.
